Tranquillity, excitement, and diligence characterized the atmosphere at Pledge Harbor International School for a year and a half leading up to the conclusion of the Multiprogramme Evaluation in January 2024.
The International Baccalaureate Organization has a unique approach to evaluating schools, focusing on progress and development rather than the pass-or-fail concept. A comprehensive three-day evaluation of the Diploma Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Primary Years Programme not only observed the advancement of our school but also garnered praise for every member of our community. We were honoured to host Ms Suman Sethi, a Senior IB World Schools Manager, and Mr Patrick Ong, an MYP Programme and Team Leader, along with Evaluation Leaders for all three programmes. Under the guidance of our Head of School, Ms. Kaniz Zareen, our DP Coordinator led the evaluation process in collaboration with MYP and PYP Coordinators and a planning committee made up of educators and administrators, with contributions from our parent body and community.
The preliminary report submitted in September 2023 met all IB expectations, boosting morale for the final IB visit in January 2024. Surveys and orientations were conducted to gather feedback from stakeholders, and action plans were developed based on the findings to enhance alignment between programmes, ensure consistency in teaching practices, and improve student learning outcomes.
Professional development sessions were held to share findings and promote collaboration among educators. Through focused efforts and strategic planning, coherence across programmes was improved. We take pride in meeting the requirements and expectations of the IBO and remain committed to ongoing evaluation and improvement at Pledge Harbor International School in Bangladesh.
All’s Well That Ends Well; the evaluation team was impressed by our school’s execution of all three programmes and the dedication shown by our students and teachers. They also noted our school’s significant community service efforts, recognizing PHIS as an exceptional IB school.

Students from Pledge Harbor International School participated in a CAS visit to Upo Anushanik Primary School, a local institution for underprivileged children. The primary goal of the visit was to bring awareness about the significance of handwashing among the students of Upo Anushanik Primary School, aligning with their CAS service objectives. Demonstrating the commitment to IB CAS goals, our students actively engaged in activities, including creating a Bangla song that conveyed the proper handwashing steps. This interactive approach not only facilitated understanding but also made the learning experience enjoyable for the Upo Anushanik Primary School students. Our students designed vibrant and informative posters illustrating handwashing steps and their health implications, serving as visual aids to reinforce the importance of this hygiene practice. As a gesture of compassion, PHIS students provided hand wash and hand towels to their peers at Upo Anushanik Primary School, contributing essential resources for proper hand hygiene. The day was filled with productivity and valuable experiences.

CAS stands for Creativity

CAS is a mandatory component of IBDP and CAS stands for Creativity, Activity and Service.

CAS is a mandatory component of IBDP and CAS stands for Creativity, Activity and Service. One of the main goals of CAS is to instill international mindedness, self-reliance, reflectiveness and caringness among the learners.
As part of their CAS experiences the students DP2 led by the Sports Captain Samiul Haque came up with the idea of organizing a sports tournament for the support staff of the school. The objective is to appreciate their service and provide them with the scope for recreation. So the students DP2 organized a series of Football matches for the support staff of PHIS. The end product of the initiative was the matches. But in the background, the learners had to take approval of the CAS Lead Mr Imtiaz Ahmad and the DPC Ms Sujata Chowdhury.
After getting the approval they made a checklist of the responsibilities to organize to event and assigned themselves. It started with interviewing the support staff (Kitchen staff, Housekeeping staff and security personnel) to know their preferences, framing bylaws for the matches and having team meetings, finalizing the awards and sending requisition for those, organizing ground set up and refreshments for the matches, officiating matches and keeping the scores, doing commentary etc. to make occasion entertaining for the support staff of the beloved school. It can easily be stated that the event was a success as the main stakeholders of the initiative looked happy and cheerful at the end of the matches.
Kudos to the students of DP2 for providing such well well-thought-out & meaningful CAS experience.

PYP Safari Park Trip 2023

There is always some buzz in the PYP foyer when our students find an opportunity to discover and learn outside the four walls of the classroom.

There is always some buzz in the PYP foyer when our students find an opportunity to discover and learn outside the four walls of the classroom. A field trip to the Safari Park Gazipur was one such moment where our learners from KG, Gr 1, 2, and 3 & 5 learned about the rules and regulations of the park and information about the animals and their dwellings.
A walk through the butterfly and the bird sanctuary, and the bus safari tour to see the Royal Bengal Tiger, lions, buffalos, giraffes, white tigers, deer, bears, and many more animals roaming freely in their natural habitat was a treat to the eyes. Our learners witnessed the life cycle of a butterfly as they saw larvae and pupae in real. They were in awe of these fierce animals and loved seeing them up close.
A picnic lunch in the park & seeing the white tiger and the Royal Bengal tiger running in front of the Safari Bus was the highlight of the day! A small museum with a few preserved birds, animals, and reptiles were unique to our students.
The objective of visiting the Safari Park and reflecting upon learning, and tuning into the units was an incredible learning experience. The learners left the park with a newfound appreciation for wildlife and the importance of preserving their terrain. They can now talk about peace and conflict in nature.
We like to thank our teachers, Ms Sifat, Ms Roana, Ms Priyangshu, Ms Surovi, Ms Faria and Ms Mumtaz, Ms Ayesha and Mr Shiful, and two of our nannies, Ms Meem and Ms Shamima for making the trip a memorable one for our young learners.
